This CT reveals a posterior dislocation of the left lens (see arrow below.)
Lens dislocation (which can be either anterior or posterior) usually is the result of a congenital condition (such as homyocystinuria or Marfan’s syndrome) or direct trauma. It presents with marked visual blurring. A helpful exam finding is shimmering of the iris with rapid eye movement due to movement of the dislocated lens.
Ultrasound or CT scan may be used to make this diagnosis if it is not apparent on fundoscopic exam. Treatment options range from observation only to surgical removal.
